The Lohja hybrid facility fuses hospital and healthcare centre

Completed in 2006, the extension of the Lohja regional hospital integrated the services of a healthcare centre. This hybrid facility brings basic healthcare services to a hospital which offers patients a broader range of health-related services – all in one place.

The extension included new facilities for specialised healthcare, a surgery block, inpatient ward, outpatient clinic and dialysis centre. The extension is a part of the hospital’s long-term development strategy.

Healing natural light and smart multifunctionalities

The architectural design of the extension is modelled around the central aisle. The deep-framed building includes four courtyards and glass-ceiling platforms that provide outdoor access.

One of the multifunctional elements is a huge balcony along the inpatient ward that offers an outdoor retreat for the patients and at the same time, serves as an emergency exit. Natural light is fortified with glass walls and light-toned wood used in the interior solutions.
